Service List

· Inspection

All incoming equipment is electrically and mechanically tested and a job card is created to track the progress of the equipment, along with a list of failures, accessories, and special notes.  From this point the equipment is classified into either "recondition" or "remanufacture".  All job cards are entered into a computer database for future reference and tracking purposes.

· Clean-up/Recondition

When a rewind is not required, the stator is washed and oven dried then re-tested electrically, the windings are coated with insulating epoxy or varnish, the mechanical components of the motor are replaced (bearings), the rotor is tested and balanced to below ISO1940 G2.5 tolerance, all bearing fits are measured and recorded to ensure they meet EASA standards, all parts are steam cleaned.  In some cases the entire exterior of the motor is sand blasted and epoxy coated to withstand very corrosive environments.  The motor is assembled, test ran, epoxy painted and prepped for shipping.

· Rewind/Remanufactured

When a motor has failed electrically, it has to be rewound.  All of our rewinds are done with the highest quality components, making all of our rewinds, VFD/Inverter Duty ready!  What does this mean to you?  A more reliable electric motor ready to be used with or with out a Variable Frequency Drive.  The stator winding is first cut, then the stator is core tested to measure the core loss (efficiency), the stator is then oven burnt at a controlled temperature, the stator is then stripped of all the old copper, and then re-core tested.  The core test is a very important step as it ensures the efficiency of the stator.  If the stator does not meet or beat the required level of efficiency, iron work is done on the stator to bring the stator up to an acceptable level.  Now the coils are put back into the stator, connected, tied and tested:  The coils are wound with inverter duty magnet wire and the connection is maximized to ensure stator will be VFD ready!  The stator is now pre-heated in our bake oven, dipped in an epoxy based varnish, then baked in a controlled oven to cure the varnish.  Any stator over 100Hp is double dipped and baked for maximum coverage!  The stator is then removed, scraped, and the motor is assembled and ready to be put back into service!

· Machining (In house machine shop)

At R.L. Electric we realize time is money, so we have set-up an in house machine shop to minimize waiting times and downtime by being able to schedule and prioritize your work as it is needed!  We have a large lathe and mill for machining shafts, impellors, bearing fits, cutting key ways, turning commutators and much more with precise accuracy!  We do not limit our in house machine shop to just electric motor components -- we do farm equipment, ventilation fans, pump impellors, and are always looking for more to keep our machines running!

· Computerized Balance Stand

Our computer controlled balance stand is one of the best pieces of equipment on the market for balancing rotating components in the electric motor field!  In fact here is a quote about our style of machine from:

Victor Wowk, P.E., is the president of Machine Dynamics, Inc., 3540B Pan American Fwy, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107, and the author of Machinery Vibration: Balancing ISBN 0-07-071938-1 published by McGraw-Hill. He can be reached at (505) 898-2094.

"Soft bearing balancing machines have flexible work supports, high sensitivity, and simple electronics. They can be placed anywhere, and can be moved without affecting calibration. Their flexible work supports provide natural isolation so nearby shop activity can continue while the machine still achieves fine balance levels. A belt-driven soft bearing balancing machine can always achieve finer balance results than a hard bearing machine. Every repair facility should have a soft bearing balancing machine and perhaps a static balancing stand."

· Custom paint (chemical paint, color, custom)

In our 30 years of servicing all sorts of different industries, we have learned that paint can make a huge difference in the life of your electric motors!   With the help of our customers we have developed an epoxy paint especially for corrosive environments!

If you need your equipment a certain color just ask, and we can accommodate!
